Firefighters, compared to their civilian counterparts, are at a much higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer. The average salary for a firefighter in 2015 was $43, 332 and with the average medical expenses for cancer being over $100,000, many cannot afford to pay these medical bills. Along with a diagnosis of cancer, income tends to be lost as the firefighter takes time off to go through treatment.

At  Fire-K Five-K, our mission is to help fund firefighters battling cancer and their families by raising money and donating the proceeds to firefighters in need.
