Misson 61 Challenge.

Mission 61 is a FireK campaign to highlight the fact that 61% of the firefighter deaths between 2002-2016 were caused by Cancer. This statistic is well above the national average.

To draw attention to this alarming trend, runners and walkers will join forces to collectively log 6,100 kilometers (approximately 3,790 miles).  This is roughly the distance between Grovetown, GA and the North Pole!

Money raised from this campaign will help offset the cost of preemptive cancer screenings for firefighters.  For every 100K (approximately 62 miles) completed in the challenge, FireK will provide a no-cost cancer screening for an at-risk firefighter.

Help FireK bring awareness to this cancer epidemic among firefighters by running or walking 10K!  You don’t need to run or walk it all at once.  Running in a local 5K or 10K race also counts.  Ask friends or family to sponsor you for each kilometer you run/walk.  When you complete your 10K, we’ll send you a Mission 61 t-shirt.  Also challenge a friend or co-worker.

You don’t have to stop at 10K.  Keep running or walking to support our firefighters!  The person who runs the most kilometers and the person who raises the most money will be recognized at the FireK banquet.

Due to Covid-19, we have suspended the Mission 61 challenge.  We will be restarting the challenge at a later date.  Come back for more details.  In the meantime, you can donate to provide cancer screenings for firefighters.  Click the Donate button and in the comments write “For Mission 61”.  We thank all of our runners/walkers and donors for their support!
